Melvin and his wife Sandy have been married for 28 years and are the proud parents of six children and have three grandchildren. They are members of the Franklin County Republican Party and worship at Eastlake Community Church in Moneta.

He holds a BA in Education and has a 28 year career in education and organizational leadership, locally and internationally.
